This piece has become a bit of an icon of everyday vintage fashion; THE 1980s ‘Astraka’ cat-face faux fur jacket. Alfred Morris, the London-based company that would later become Astraka, was established in the late 1890s manufacturing high quality imitation furs, and by the late 1940s-early ‘50s the renamed ‘Astraka’ label had become a go-to in “furrier-made” faux. This example is in a mid brown deep pile nylon plush, with animal print in black, and feline features picked out to the back in white and yellow. A classic ‘80s fit, with slight cocoon cut, and low button fastening plus loop button below lapel if desired. With side pockets, it has unfortunately lost it’s label due to some alterations to the lining (only evident from ghost stitch dots and inspection of hidden side seams, nothing at all noticeable when worn), but I have handled other identical pieces which have retained their labels so can attribute this with some certainty.

Chest of garment 42”

Hip 40”

Mid shoulder to hem 31”

Sleeve length from underarm 17”

Presents very well, minor use to the pile perhaps, a little gentle fuzzing to the inside of sleeve hems but nothing noticeable on.
