A spectacular 1940s winter coat in high quality black wool, from ‘Morris B Sachs’ label. Lined in rayon crepe, it’s an unfitted cut and absolutely classic silhouette BUT with gorgeous unusual seaming detail to front and back yoke that really sets this piece apart from the rest. What a triumph of patterncutting! Fastening at the neck with a single covered button, and lower down with silk-covered popstud, the neck is finished with soft grey astrakhan collar which fastens as though a scarf; passing one end through a slit opening in the other side.
(This is a USA made garment so no additional tariffs for our US shoppers)
43” garment chest
Hip 54”
Mid shoulder to hem 42”
Sleeve length 15.5” from underarm, which is quite low
Excellent condition, presents superbly with nothing noticeable when on. The buttonhole has a small worn patch directly beneath which has been secured with invisible stitches, and the backing fabric dyed to match so far less noticeable, and is obviously covered with the button when fastened (the fur collar may well cover this anyway when worn open also!). A neat mend to the top and bottom of one pocket opening which is very easy to overlook. The odd spot of mildest surface wear to the pile of fabric, again only seen under scrutiny and not in prominent areas.
