1940s Printed rayon day dress - Small
An early example from the British ‘Susan Small’ label, late 1940s day dress in delightfully tactile crepey rayon, printed with florals in cranberry and cream. With charming short sleeve cut in one with the body, that feature raised hems to show a little more of the upper arm, and glossy black buttons to fasten with hand-bound buttonholes. The pointed lapel collar is structured with stiffened interfacing inside, allowing it to be worn ‘popped’ as pictured! Skirt is nicely full with gathers, and features a tucked pleat detail towards hem, and a pocket to each side. Side metal zip, unlined
Chest of garment 36” including a little of the underarm curve, should fit at least 2” under this measurement
Waist of garment 27” tight, again best fit 1-2” below
16.5” mid shoulder to waist
26.5” skirt length
Excellent structural condition. This piece had been carelessly washed by a previous owner, causing the interfacing of the collar to slightly discolour the edge/inner collar, and back of the bodice somewhat. We massively lessened this with careful laundering however, and the piece is clean and ready to wear. Pin hole to back as pictured, two small darker marks at front darts which blend well with the print!
