A fantastic example of the intersection of fashion, culture, and socio-economical history; this 1975* piece is from Maridadi Fabrics, a community venture established in 1966 Kenya, screen printing cottons by hand. An interesting article from the time can be found here . *dated from the selvedge print

With attractive squared halterneck tying to the back, the piece contrasts plain black cotton with the wonderful screenprinted Giraffes in white at bodice and hem. Back of bodice is shirred with elastic, and fastens with metal zip.

Chest 34-6"

Waist 26

Hip 44"

10" centrefront to waist

36" skirt length

Presents very well, the black has an overall gentle fade to more of charcoal-black, and the back of bodice has more of a creamy hue. Slight makeup transfer remains to inside neck after laundering, and a line of discolouration as pictured. Still a wonderful piece of history and very rare to find.
