1940s Hand embroidered french knickers - Extra small
A stunning find, 1940s tap pants/French knickers in peachy pink rayon with delicate floral pattern. I am guessing these formed part of a bridal trousseaux given the incredibly work intensive construction- these sweethearts are ENTIRELY stitched by hand, formed of chevron strips of the fabric connected by hand-embroidered fagoting, with hand stitched buttonholes and scalloped hems. The fagoting shows skin through, quite risqué!
Waist of garment 25”
Hip 39”
Front rise 15”
Excellent condition, only structural note is a length of concentrated stitching at the crotch seam which may be from original construction to reinforce the seam. There was a small rusty mark towards the hem which I treated with topical oxi, which has lightened the fabric very slightly more than base colour- doh- but this is actually very very slight and you wouldn’t know when worn. Considerably better than the rust!
