A stunning 1950s dress from couture designer Hardy Amies, famed for his intricate tailoring, in the most beautiful quality silk with seersucker weave, printed with dainty coral florals against inky black. A chic and demure cut, this can curiously be worn two ways; with inverted pleat of the bodice to front, or the side of bodice featuring gentle gathers along the neckline to front. The direction of the pocket flaps suggest the latter is the 'correct' way, however this leaves the label and fastening to the front, which threw me originally- both ways are photographed, and there is no bust darting to either side so neither looks odd when worn! Skirt is gently pleated and lined in silk, and the piece fastens with popstuds. The sleeves are the real star of the show, with their wonderful width gathering to flat buttoned cuff to billow bishop-style.
