A wonderful early 1940s day dress in red and deep blue striped cotton, with novelty print depicting working couple with their dog, rabbit, and honking goose, bordered with traditional floral, and beetroot/turnip, motifs! Displaying the typical design features of Germanic fashions favoured in wartime propaganda to promote national pride, this piece was featured in the 'German style during the war' chapter of the Style Me Vintage series of books by Dr Liz Tregenza. Particular attention to detail has been given to the bodice shaping, utilising the stripes within red cotton piping borders, with shaped cuff to front neckline, and pleated ruffle shoulders. Sleeves are puffed and elasticated, and skirt is gathered. Side metal zip to fasten, from manufacturers 'RiRi' who are still making findings and fastenings to this day.
