Incredible 1940s skirt with label indicating retail through the luxury Cannes arcade ‘Galeries Fleuries’, from designer Raphaelle Vallet. In highly unusual fabric knitted in what feels like a glossy rayon yarn (silky but weighty), with chevron stripe to front and back. The deep hem is detailed with handknotted openwork forming rows of ‘bows’, and the piece is lined in fine taffeta for modesty on those sheer panels! Fastening with back metal zip and hook, inside waistband has a rubberised strip giving some elastication, similar to the raffia examples from this period.
Waist 26” comfortably, to 28 tight
Length 29-31* not including waistband
*given the weight of the knit, the sides have gradually dipped compared to the front seam, this is not very noticeable when worn, and wearer’s hips will elevate sides somewhat. Other than that, fantastic condition!
