1960s Beetle print batik dress - Small
Tax included.
An interesting early 1960s day dress, in what I believe to be Indonesian batik printed cotton, featuring stylised florals, huge peacocks, and Atlas beetles in flight! Semi fitted bodice, with pleat details to a rigid waistline, and straight skirt below. The chest fastens with popstuds, behind fabric bow at collared neckline, and two large covered buttons. Side metal zip to fasten. No labels, but I found a piece of same age in very very similar fabric from a Singaporean label. We replaced the original metal zip with one of same age, as it was entirely rusted shut.
15” between shoulder seams
Chest of garment 36” tight, not meant to be fitted however
Waist of garment 27
Hip 38 tight
Mid shoulder to waist 16”
Skirt length 21”*
Presents excellently. This came to us with damage at the hem, but you now wouldn’t know; a reverse patch has been set in as pictured by matching the print almost perfectly, lost when worn. Inside the hem allowance has some damage which this is of course hidden when worn, *has a few inches hem but this would include the damaged area.
