1920s Celluloid eye tasselled dance purse
An exquisite late 1920s surrealist style ‘dance purse’ in sturdy black and red glossy celluloid, a pointed elliptical shape with interior circular bevelled mirror, so it resembles an Eye. The incredibly satisfying catch mechanism keeps the piece closed, and it is finished with silky tassels dangling to the underside with striped black/red celluloid connecting loops. The strap is twisted rope style silk, and the piece is lined with moiré silk in deep red shade. A perfect addition to any early plastics or compact/handbag collection.
5” across at widest
15” total drop including tassels
Fantastic condition, no damage to the main body, just a touch of surface use to the plastic outer but no warping/cracks and still so tactile and lustrous! The strap has a short area of wear which doesn’t affect use at all, and a little gentle surface matting to the knots but this is negligible I feel.
