1950s Eyelet cotton summer dress - Extra small
A chic 1950s summer dress with so many subtly work-intensive details, in pure white cotton with embroidered eyelet openwork. The bodice is a work of beautiful craftsmanship, with deep curved neckline hugging the neck to fold over into dramatic small collar, and clever seam work to the back. Cap sleeves are curved up into 'splits' at shoulder, and skirt is a full circle. Shown here with light petticoat not included. Note that the piece is unlined, so you may want to wear a slip underneath!
Chest of garment 34"
Waist 23", perhaps 23.5 tight
Mid shoulder to waist just under 15"
27" skirt length
In excellent structural condition, restored by the in-house specialist, who added professional flourish to the hooks & eyes with embroidery stitches. Freshly laundered, there remain 2 small patches of what appear to be tea coloured marks that someone has curiously covered with an off-white solution.
